Hello defence aspirants, today we will focus on really simple but very important topic regarding CDS exam, that is, CDS Exam eligibility.Various things come under CDS exam eligibility, like CDS exam age limit, number of attempts, qualification required, how to calculate number of attempts, exact criteria and requirements we must know before applying for CDS Exam.
We will also talk about some CDS exam eligibility criteria which are not given in notifiation but are actually important to clear CDS exam. So, lets start.
CDS Eligibility 2020
Before applying for exam, you must know CDS exam eligbility conditions because admission certificate to the candidate (application form) will not imply that your candidature has been finally cleared by the Commission. So, its better to be aware of CDS exam requirements inititally so that you can fulfill them.
CDS Eligibility with Respect to Location
First eligibility of CDS exam is with respect to location. If you want to apply for CDS exam, then you must be unmarried and your Nationality must be any of the following:
(1) a Citizen of India or
(2) a subject of Bhutan or
(3) a subject of Nepal or
(4) a Tibetan refugee who came over to India before the 1st January, 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India, or
(5) a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka as well as Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, East African Countries of Kenya, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire and Ethiopia or Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.
Generally majority of aspirants are citizens of India And if you are from any other criteria, then you also need Certificate of Eligibility issued by Government of India (except Gorkha Subjects of Nepal)
CDS Exam eligibility for IMA:
Aspirants applying for Indian Military Academy (IMA) must be Unmarried male candidates born not earlier than 2nd January, 1997 and not later than 1st January, 2002 only are eligible for CDS 1 2020 Exam.
CDS Exam Eligibility for INA:
Aspirants appying for Indian Naval Academy must be Unmarried male candidates born not earlier than 2nd January, 1997 and not later than 1st January, 2002 only are eligible for upcoming CDS 1 2020 exam.
CDS Exam Eligibility 2020 for AFA:
CDS exam eligibility for Air Force academy is little complex to understand. So, we will see it in simplified format. CDS AFA aspirant aiming for CDS 1 2020 exam must not be born earlier than 2nd January 1997 and not later than 1st January 2001. He must be between 20 to 24 years as on 1st January 2021.
Upper age limit for candidates holding valid and current Commercial Pilot Licence issued by DGCA is 26 years, that is, born not earlier than 2nd January, 1995 and not later than 1st January, 2001.
Marriage related Note or AFA:
Candidate below 25 years of age must be unmarried at any cost and marriage is not
permitted during training. Married candidates above 25 years of age are eligible to apply but during the training period they will neither be provided married
accommodation nor can they live with family out of the academy premises.
CDS Exam Eligibility FOR OTA Men:
For Short Service Course for men via Officers Training Academy, unmarried male
candidates who are not born earlier than 2nd January 1996 and not later than 1st January 2002 only are eligible.
Marriage related note for OTA Men:
Male divorcee/widower candidates cannot be treated as unmarried male
for the purpose of their admission in IMA, INA, AFA or even OTA Chennai. It means that they are not eligible for these courses.
CDS Exam Eligibility for OTA Women:
Women who want to apply for SSC Women Non-Technical Course must be
Unmarried, issueless widows who have not remarried and issueless
divorcees who have not remarried are eligible.
And they must be born not earlier than 2nd January 1996 and not later than 1st
January 2002.
(All the above qualification will have importance if you are within CDS exam age limit 2020)
CDS Exam Qualification 2020
Now we will talk about the Educational qualification requirement for different academies which you can join via CDS exam You will need this information while filling the preferences in the application form.
CDS Exam Qualification for IMA:
Degree of any recognized university or equivalent is must if you want to apply for Indian Military academy. Means aspirants who have done graduation in Science, commerce or even Humanities can apply.
CDS Exam Qualification for INA:
Degree in Engineering from a recognized University or Institution is must if you want to apply for Indian Naval Academy via CDS exam.
CDS Exam Qualification for AFA:
You must have Degree of a recognized University with Physics and
Mathematics at 10+2 level or even Bachelor of Engineering. You need to select Technical and Non Technical posts accordingly while filling the AFCAT exam form. That’s not the case with CDS Exam.
CDS Exam Qualification for OTA:
Degree of any recognized university or equivalent is a must if you want to apply for Indian Military academy. Means aspirants who have done graduation in Science, commerce or even Arts can apply.
Can I give CDS exam in last year of Graduation?
Yes. You can. Candidates who are studying in the final year or Final semester of the degree course and are yet to pass the final year degree examination can also apply.
But they should not have any present backlog upto the last semester / year for which results have been declared.
CDS Exam age limit:

CDS exam age limit for IMA: 19-24 years
CDS exam age limit for INA: 19-22 years
CDS exam age limit for AFA: 19-23 years
CDS exam age limit for OTA: 19-25 years
CDS Exam number of attempts:
Now you have CDS exam age limit and even exact dates for CDS 1 2020 exam. Considering your age and age limit, number of attempts can be calculated. Generally, every CDS aspirants have 4-5 attempts for CDS exam.

CDS Eligibility Criteria 2020 ( no-one will talk about it)
- All above criteria will only qualify you for CDS exam, not qualify for joining the academy.
- You will need focus on CDS GK preparation, CDS Maths preparation and CDS English preparation if you wish to qualify cutoff, which needs hard work and proper direction.
- After qualifying written exam, you also need to clear SSB interview which needs good psychological development which comes over months of preparation.
- You must focus on above two criteria’s more, because lakhs of aspirants qualify all qualifications except these two.

Actually. I want to give CDS only for experience because I am in TE . I know even after clearing exam i am unable to attained SSB. But i hope there will be no problem regarding this type of attempt.
